Tipping Point - 1.5 Degrees Celsius
A new report from the World Meteorological Organization states that the average temperature on Earth is now 1 degree Celsius hotter than the 19th Century and scientist predict that we will hit the dreaded 1.5 degree Celsius mark within the next five years. If we fail to keep the average global temperature within a healthy range, we will face the catastrophic long-term effects of climate change.
With less travel and industry, there was optimism that this scenario would hinder this temperature increase. To the contrary, millions of people on every continent (except Antarctica) have suffered from the record breaking numbers of hurricanes, droughts, wildfires, floods and dangerous heat waves demonstrating how this slight rise in temperature has a colossal impact on the planet.
The bottom line…we must reduce greenhouse gas emissions and invest in clean energy to reach carbon neutrality. While this task is massive, there are indications that "some" governments are recognizing the seriousness of this issue and are taking steps to deal with it...but "some" is not enough...we need all hands on deck!
