BEE THANKFUL
Today the US recognizes National Bee Day, not to be mistaken with World Bee Day which is May 20th. Threats to our apian friends are real. From extreme weather which affects the blueprint of their migration and the timing of flowering plants to pesticides which contaminate the bees & their hives and destroy their pollination process.
Bees have a laborious work ethic contributing to the pollination of approximately $19 billion worth of crops in the US alone. Pollination is essentially plant reproduction and without this process about one third of the staples we rely on would not be available. Bees are one of the most important insects to our existence. Scientists estimate that one out of every three bites of food we consume exists because of pollinating insects. These humble little drones provide us with delicious fruits & vegetables, golden honey and beautiful flowering gardens!
